What
is a pathologist?
A pathologist is a medical doctor who, in addition to a MD degree, has
pursued specialized training in tissue manifestations of disease and laboratory
procedures. Pathologists are experts in evaluation of blood tissues and
other specimens and in the medical application of laboratory test results.
Why
am I receiving a bill from someone other than my doctor?
Your doctor has chosen Pathology Medical Associates as their provider
of pathology services. When you have a tissue removed, your doctor sends
it to us for processing, followed by a microscopic evaluation and diagnosis
by one of our board certified pathologists. Billing for pathology services
comes directly from PMA.
What do I do if
I have questions about my bill?
PMA has a billing specialist, Eloise Griffith, who can answer any questions
about your bill. You can update your insurance, pay your bill or get questions
answered by calling our office at 865-482-9633. We do all billing for
you at our local office in Oak Ridge.
How can I pay my
bill?
We participate in nearly all insurance plans in the regional area and
accept insurance payments as payment in full. If your deductible is not
met, you will receive a bill from us for the balance due. You have several
options...

Can
you give me the results of my pathology examination?
The pathology report issued by our pathologists is the result of a medical
consultation requested by your physician. Therefore, the original report
is returned to your physician. You should ask your physician about the
contents of the report rather than try to interpret it yourself. You may
request a copy from your physician or with written authorization, you
can obtain a copy from our office. We do not give verbal reports to patients.
