Pathology Medical Associates is a professional association of five pathologists serving Oak Ridge and the surrounding counties.  We have been providing quality anatomic and clinical pathology services to Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, physicians, and patients for over fifteen years. Pathology Medical Associates is a subsidiary member of Diagnostic Pathology Consultants, P.C. which also includes Knoxville Pathology Group and Pathology Labs West in Knoxville.  PMA is also a member of Pathology Service Associates (PSA), a nationwide cooperative pathology network. Our mission is to provide innovative, high-quality pathology services that ensure consistent client service, rapid delivery of diagnostic reports, and superior patient care.

Pathology Medical Associates directs the laboratory, is active on the medical staff, and provides anatomic pathology services to the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. PMA works in cooperation with pathologists at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital, Fort Sanders Park West Hospital and Roane County Medical Center. Our pathologists are also members of the Medical Staff at Roane County Medical Center.

At critical times of a patient’s life, we offer personalized, diagnostic information for patients and their physicians. We provide comprehensive diagnoses based on tissue (for example, biopsies) as well as cytology specimens (for example, pap smears) to detect and monitor cancers and other diseases. Because we have been the pathology reference center for this region for 15 years, our files contain pathology history on many thousands of patients. These files are held in strictest confidence by are reviewed by the pathologist with every current examination to assure continuity of care. The actual tissue slides from previous examinations are on file for comparison if needed.

All PMA pathologists are board certified in Anatomic (AP) and Clinical Pathology (CP) by the American Board of Pathology. In addition, the group has members with subspecialty certification in Cytopathology and Transfusion Medicine with special expertise in Hemotopathology, Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Management. Surgical pathology and cytology services are provided at PMA’s laboratory, which is located near Methodist Medical Center. The experience of our pathologists ranges from 14 years to 26 years.

Our pathologists are personally available to discuss any findings, further workup and treatment options with the referring physician. PMA welcomes physicians to view specimens through the double-head microscope with our pathologists and discuss diagnoses and special cases. One of our pathologists is available for consultation at your request 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
